The blanket mold design is typically used for larger molds to:
- minimize the amount of rubber required to make the mold
- keep the rubber mold thinner and therefore more flexible and easier to demold
There are two methods for making a blanket mold:
- Brush the rubber over the model in several coats to build up rubber thickness. Then make the mother mold on top of the rubber to support the mold.
- Pour the rubber between a previously made mother mold and the model. This method provides a more uniform rubber thickness making this mold more durable than the brushed version.
